Kannur

Kannur, located in the northern part of Kerala, is a district rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. Known as the "Land of Looms and Lores," Kannur has been a significant trading center since ancient times, attracting various dynasties and colonial powers, including the Portuguese, Dutch, and British. The district's vibrant cultural heritage is exemplified by the Theyyam ritual, a unique and colorful folk art form performed in temples, and its strong connection to Kalaripayattu, one of the oldest martial arts in the world.

Geographically, Kannur is blessed with a stunning coastline along the Arabian Sea, offering some of Kerala's most beautiful beaches, such as Payyambalam and Muzhappilangad, the latter being the only drive-in beach in the state. The district also features historical landmarks like the St. Angelo Fort, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, and the Arakkal Museum, which honors the legacy of Kerala's only Muslim royal family.

The local economy thrives on its renowned handloom industry, producing high-quality fabrics that are sought after globally, alongside agriculture, with cashew, coconut, and spices being the main crops.
